長文

Today, many cities have problems with the environment. There is too much smoke in the air, and rivers are sometimes polluted. These problems are common in many countries. However, there (①) a project in my town that tries to solve these problems in a unique way.
The project started three years ago. A group of students and merchants worked together to clean the town. At first, people did not think it would succeed. Some said it was too difficult, and others were not interested. However, the students did not give (②). They continued their activities and tried to raise people’s awareness.
One of their ideas was to use art. They made poems and pictures about nature and printed them on goods such as bags and posters. These goods were sold at local shops. The money was (③) to plant trees and clean rivers. As a result, more people became interested in the project.

日本語訳
今日、多くの都市が環境に関する問題を抱えています。空気中には煙が多すぎたり、川が汚染されていることもあります。これらの問題は多くの国で共通しています。しかし、私の町には、これらの問題を独自の方法で解決しようとするプロジェクトがあります。
そのプロジェクトは3年前に始まりました。学生と商人のグループが協力して町をきれいにしました。最初、人々はそれが成功するとは思いませんでした。難しすぎると言う人もいれば、関心を持たない人もいました。しかし、学生たちはあきらめませんでした。彼らは活動を続け、人々の意識を高めようとしました。
彼らのアイデアの一つは、芸術を使うことでした。自然についての詩や絵を作り、それらをバッグやポスターなどの商品に印刷しました。これらの商品は地元の店で売られました。そのお金は、木を植えたり川をきれいにしたりするために使われました。その結果、より多くの人々がこのプロジェクトに関心を持つようになりました。
現在、その町は以前よりもはるかにきれいになっています。空気はより澄み、木の数も増えました。また、人々はこれらの活動を通してお互いにより交流するようにもなりました。もしより多くの町がこの例に従えば、私たちの環境はより良くなるでしょう。
私の考えでは、小さな行動であっても大きな違いを生むことができます。私たちは誰かが問題を解決してくれるのを待つべきではありません。そうではなく、自分たちに何ができるのかを考え、行動を起こすべきです。
